About Snead's

Expert Utility Installation Contractors in Charlotte, NC

Snead's Outdoor Services started with our owner, Chris Snead, who grew up in the landscaping and power equipment business alongside his father. He took to running machinery early, and once he graded his first plot of land on his father's tractor he was hooked — that is where this company came from.

We are still a small outfit and we like it that way: the person who plans the run is the one digging it. Line goes in at the depth the job calls for, backfilled properly, and the drive and yard put back.

Our Utility Installation Process

From the first call to the finished job, here is how a utility install runs from the first walk-through to the restored surface.

Step 1

Free On-Site Estimate

We come out and look at the run, the depth it needs and what is in the way, so there are no surprises once the trench is open.

Step 2

We Go Over It With You

You hear what we found, what it is going to take and what it costs — before anything gets started. Nothing happens on your property until you say go.

Step 3

We Trench and Set the Line

The line goes in at the depth the job calls for and is backfilled properly so nothing settles on you later. Drive, yard and shoulder go back.

Step 4

When the work is done we go over the finished job together and make sure it is what you had in mind. That is the part most people never get, and it is the part we care about most.

Utility Installation FAQs

Answers to the questions we get asked most about utility installation work in Mecklenburg County and central North Carolina. Anything not covered here, call us on (336) 596-5573.

How much does it cost?

Every site is different, so there is no honest flat rate to quote. We come out, look at the job in person and give you a straight number before anything starts — free, and with no obligation to use us.

How deep does the line go?

At the depth the job calls for — which varies with what is being run and what it has to cross. We work that out before the trench is open, not after.

What happens to my driveway and yard?

They go back. The line is bedded and backfilled properly so nothing settles later, and the drive, yard and shoulder are restored once it is in.

Do you handle the digging as well as the line?

Yes. Trenching is excavation work and it is what we already do, so the digging, the line and putting the ground back are one job with one crew.

What equipment do you use?

Caterpillar equipment and other heavy machinery. We are owner-operated, so the person who comes out to quote your job is the one running the machine on it.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Lexington and work across Davidson County and central North Carolina — Winston-Salem, High Point, Thomasville, Asheboro, Denton, Kernersville, Clemmons, Mocksville, Advance, Salisbury, Concord, Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson and the Lake Norman area, plus the communities around them.
